Beth Mooney produced another WBBL gem, blasting an unbeaten 94 off 61 to power the Perth Scorchers to a seven-wicket win over Brisbane Heat and seal their place in the finals.
Chasing 165 in a must-win clash at the WACA, Mooney controlled the innings from ball one, striking 12 boundaries and guiding Perth home with four balls to spare. Her effort not only secured a home final for the Scorchers but also officially knocked the Melbourne Renegades out of the top four while condemning the Heat to the first winless season in WBBL history.
Earlier, Georgia Redmayne top-scored with 57 as Brisbane posted 164 for 7, but the total proved insufficient against Mooney’s class. While the Scorchers briefly wobbled with the wickets of Maddy Darke and Sophie Devine, Mooney’s calm presence, supported by Freya Kemp’s late hitting, ensured a smooth finish.
With one match left in the league stage, Hobart Hurricanes have already secured top spot and hosting rights for the December 13 Final. Perth, sit third and will face the Melbourne Stars in the Knockout on December 9, with the winner advancing to meet the Sydney Sixers in the Challenger on December 11 for a spot in the title clash.
Mooney, the WBBL’s all-time leading run-scorer, now enters the finals in red-hot form after scores of 105, 75, and 94*, firmly marking herself as the biggest threat of WBBL`11.
