Shanaka to lead as Sri Lanka unveil squad for ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2026

Sri Lanka have officially revealed their squad for the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2026, becoming the final nation to confirm their line-up, with experienced all-rounder Dasun Shanaka entrusted with captaincy.

Shanaka, who was named skipper in the preliminary list released in December, will marshal a side built around proven white-ball performers, as Sri Lanka aim to reclaim global T20 glory for the first time since their 2014 triumph.

The batting core looks solid and experienced, headlined by Pathum Nissanka, Kusal Mendis, Kusal Perera and Charith Asalanka, offering both stability and firepower at the top and middle order.

Sri Lanka’s biggest strength lies in their all-round depth, with match-winners Wanindu Hasaranga, Kamindu Mendis and Dunith Wellalage providing crucial balance, giving the team multiple bowling options without weakening the batting.

The bowling attack carries serious bite, featuring pace threats Dushmantha Chameera and Matheesha Pathirana, supported by the mystery spin of Maheesh Theekshana, a combination capable of troubling any batting line-up in world conditions.

Currently locked in a home T20I series against England, which the visitors lead 2-0, Sri Lanka will look to use the final match as a springboard to fine-tune combinations before the global showdown begins.

With a champion’s legacy from 2014 and a squad blending youth, experience and versatility, Sri Lanka head into the World Cup with renewed belief and a clear mission, to bring the trophy back to the island once again.
