Canada’s rising star Yuvraj Samra announced himself on the global stage with a breathtaking century that rewrote the record books in Chennai.
The 19-year-old hammered 110 off 65 balls, smashing 11 fours and six sixes, to become the youngest male cricketer to score a century in any men’s World Cup format and the first from an associate nation to achieve the feat in a T20 World Cup match.
Samra reached his hundred in just 58 deliveries and tore into the attack with fearless strokeplay, including a blistering over off James Neesham that featured three boundaries and a towering six.
His maiden international ton powered Canada to a competitive 173/4 and kept their tournament hopes alive, transforming a pressure game into a coming-of-age moment.
Named after Indian great Yuvraj Singh, Samra delivered a knock worthy of the name, fearless, fluent and unforgettable, marking the arrival of a new star on cricket’s biggest stage.
