PSL rewrites history with First-Ever Player Auction as 103 Stars go under the Hammer

Record bids, new franchises, and blockbuster squads set the stage for PSL 11

The HBL Pakistan Super League (PSL) stepped into a new era as the tournament conducted its first-ever Player Auction, transforming the way franchises build their squads and igniting a day packed with fierce bidding wars and headline-making deals.

A total of 103 players were sold, with eight franchises finalising 141 roster spots, making it the largest and most competitive squad assembly in league history.

With three new teams entering the competition and established sides strengthening aggressively, PSL 11 already carries the feel of a landmark season before a single ball has been bowled.

Naseem Shah tops the charts

Rawalpindi made the loudest statement of the auction by snapping up Naseem Shah for PKR 8.65 crores, the highest bid of the day and the biggest contract in PSL auction history.

The franchise doubled down by securing New Zealand all-rounder Daryl Mitchell for PKR 8.05 crores, making him the most expensive overseas signing and underlining Rawalpindi’s championship ambitions.

Veteran pacer Mohammad Amir and spinner Asif Afridi further strengthened a formidable bowling unit.

Islamabad United set the tone early

History was created the moment Faheem Ashraf became the first player ever auctioned, with Islamabad United winning an intense battle at PKR 8.5 crores.

United continued their aggressive rebuild with Mark Chapman, Mohammad Wasim Jnr, Imad Wasim, and exciting U19 talent Sameer Minhas.

They also welcomed Dipendra Singh Airee, who became the first Nepali cricketer in PSL history, adding an international milestone to the day.

Karachi Kings reload with star power

Karachi Kings brought back familiar firepower by re-signing former captain David Warner for PKR 7.9 crores, instantly boosting their top order.

Explosive hitter Azam Khan, Pakistan T20I captain Salman Ali Agha, and leg-spinner Adam Zampa add both muscle and balance to a squad designed to dominate both batting and spin-friendly conditions.

Fresh faces, Fresh franchises

Debutants Sialkot Stallionz and Hyderabad Houston Kingsmen made strong first impressions with smart international and local combinations.

Sialkot secured Ashton Turner, Tabraiz Shamsi, Josh Phillippe, and veteran seamer Peter Siddle, while Hyderabad drafted Kusal Perera, fresh from PSL final heroics, alongside promising domestic match-winners.

Their aggressive entry signals a new competitive edge for the tournament.

Champions hold their Core

Defending champions Lahore Qalandars focused on continuity, retaining match-winners Haris Rauf and Fakhar Zaman, while adding young pace and spin depth to protect their crown.

Accordingly, Peshawar Zalmi balanced stability with experience, roping in Michael Bracewell, Kusal Mendis, and James Vince to complement a strong local core.

A New Era Begins

With record contracts, global stars, and three new franchises shaking up the landscape, the PSL auction has injected fresh energy into Pakistan’s biggest T20 spectacle.

As PSL 11 prepares to run from 26 March to 3 May, fans can expect deeper squads, fiercer rivalries, and the most competitive season the league has ever seen.

The gavel has fallen, now the battle moves to the field.
