Melie Kerr takes charge as White Ferns Captain ahead of World Cup defence

New Zealand have ushered in a new era of leadership with star all-rounder Melie Kerr appointed captain across all formats, replacing the experienced Sophie Devine.

Kerr, already one of the White Ferns’ most consistent performers, has featured in 172 internationals, amassing 3,757 runs and claiming 201 wickets to cement her status as a cornerstone of the side.

Her first assignment in charge will be the upcoming white-ball series against Zimbabwe, offering an early opportunity to shape combinations ahead of next year’s global tournaments.

Speaking after the announcement, Kerr called the role a “massive privilege,” pledging to maintain her authentic leadership style while guiding a talented squad into a new cycle.

Head coach Ben Sawyer praised her maturity and influence within the group, adding that her appointment provides stability and continuity as New Zealand prepare to defend their T20 World Cup crown in England.
