The race to the Super 8s at the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup intensified on a high-octane matchday as India and West Indies officially confirmed qualification, while USA kept their campaign alive with another commanding performance.
Across Colombo, Mumbai and Chennai, three contrasting contests showcased clinical bowling spells, fearless batting and big-match temperament as the tournament’s contenders tightened their grip on knockout spots.
India outclass Pakistan in classic rivalry
At Colombo, defending champions India produced a complete performance to hammer Pakistan by 61 runs and make it three wins in a row.
A blazing 77 off 40 balls from Ishan Kishan powered India to 175/7, the highest total in an India-Pakistan T20 World Cup clash at the venue, before the bowlers dismantled the chase with ruthless precision.
Hardik Pandya and Jasprit Bumrah struck early, while Axar Patel and Kuldeep Yadav squeezed the middle overs to derail Pakistan despite a fighting 44 from Usman Khan.
Pandya returned to seal the final wicket as India wrapped up a commanding victory that underlined their title credentials and confirmed their Super 8 berth.
West Indies march through unbeaten
At the Wankhede Stadium, two-time champions West Indies extended their winning streak with a dominant nine-wicket thrashing of Nepal.
Nepal’s 133/8 never threatened the Caribbean powerhouse after a sharp bowling display led by Jason Holder, who ripped through the order with 4/27, supported by Akeal Hosein and Matthew Forde.
In reply, Shai Hope blasted an unbeaten 61 while Shimron Hetmyer added a fluent 46*, guiding West Indies home with ease and sealing top spot in Group C.
USA continue rise with Namibia win
Accordingly at Chennai, USA delivered another statement performance, defeating Namibia by 31 runs to stay firmly in contention.
A rapid start from captain Monank Patel set the tone before Sanjay Krishnamurthi’s explosive 68* off just 33 balls lifted USA to a daunting total.
Namibia threatened through Louren Steenkamp’s 58, but disciplined bowling, spearheaded by Shadley van Schalkwyk, ensured USA controlled the chase and secured their second straight victory.
Tournament picture heats up
With India and West Indies already through and South Africa earlier maintaining their unbeaten charge, the Super 8 race is tightening fast.
USA’s surge adds fresh intrigue to the group battle, while traditional heavyweights continue to stamp their authority, setting the stage for a blockbuster knockout phase in the weeks ahead.
