Abdullah Almutairi has officially returned as head coach of the Sri Lanka, marking the start of his second tenure at a pivotal moment for the country’s international campaign.
The reappointment was confirmed following discussions with Jaswar Umar, President of the Football Federation of Sri Lanka (FFSL), as the federation opted for continuity and stability in its technical leadership.
During his first spell, Almutairi delivered notable international wins, tightened tactical discipline, improved professionalism within the squad, and helped lift Sri Lanka’s standing in the FIFA rankings through structured preparation and modern systems.
The national programme resumes in the third week of March with a centralized training camp ahead of a decisive AFC Asian Cup qualifying clash against Chinese Taipei on March 30, a fixture that could define Sri Lanka’s qualification hopes.
With Almutairi expected to arrive in the country within two weeks after Ramadan, Sri Lanka now turns its focus to disciplined preparation and renewed belief as the Lions gear up for their next big test.
