Scotland have unveiled their squad for the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2026, naming Richie Berrington as captain for the global tournament, which will be staged in India. The announcement marks Scotland’s seventh appearance at the Men’s T20 World Cup, having featured in the inaugural edition back in 2007.
The squad will be guided by new head coach Owen Dawkins, with selectors opting for a balanced mix of experience and fresh talent. The headline inclusion is Zainullah Ihsan, the Afghan-born fast bowler who has earned his maiden call-up after recently becoming eligible to represent Scotland. Ihsan has impressed at youth and ‘A’ team level and is seen as a genuine pace option heading into sub-continent conditions.
Also included is former New Zealand international Tom Bruce, who strengthens Scotland’s batting resources. The 34-year-old played 17 T20Is for the Black Caps before switching allegiance and brings valuable top-level experience to the middle order.
Cricket Scotland’s Head of Performance Steve Snell expressed confidence in the squad’s readiness, particularly for the challenges expected in Indian conditions. He highlighted the balance of the group, the potential impact of Ihsan’s pace, and the hard-earned selection of Oli Davidson, whose recent improvements and work ethic earned him a place in the final squad.
Scotland have been drawn into Group C, where they will face England, West Indies, Nepal and Italy in the group stage. Their campaign begins on 7 February at Eden Gardens, with a challenging opening fixture against West Indies.
With a settled leadership group, fresh energy in the bowling department, and added depth in the batting, Scotland will be aiming to make a strong impression on the world stage as they prepare to take on some of the game’s biggest names.
