The Pakistan Super League (PSL) has announced sweeping structural reforms ahead of its 11th edition, marking the most significant transformation in the League’s history and signalling the dawn of a new era for Pakistan’s premier T20 competition.
Headlining the changes is a historic shift from the traditional Player Draft to a Player Auction model, introduced after a decade of the League’s operation. The move is designed to enhance competitive balance, improve transparency, and provide players with greater financial opportunities, aligning the PSL more closely with global franchise cricket standards.
Under the revised player acquisition framework, each franchise will be permitted to retain a maximum of four players, restricted to one player per category. This represents a major reduction from previous seasons, where teams could retain up to eight players, with additional provisions for mentors, brand ambassadors, and the Right to Match (RTM) option. All such mechanisms have now been abolished for PSL 11, streamlining squad-building regulations.
In a further boost to inclusivity and balance, newly inducted teams will be allowed to select and retain four players from the available player pool prior to the Player Auction. Franchises will also be granted one direct signing of a foreign player who did not feature in PSL X, opening the door for fresh international talent to enter the League.
Reinforcing its commercial strength and ambition, the PSL has also announced a salary cap increase to USD 1.6 million per franchise, underlining the League’s intent to attract elite domestic and overseas cricketers while rewarding performance at the highest level.
The 11th season of the PSL will officially commence on 26 March 2026, with Faisalabad added as an additional host venue, marking the city’s return to top-tier cricket and expanding the League’s national footprint.
“These progressive measures reflect the League’s strategic evolution while remaining firmly rooted in its mission to promote cricketing excellence and fan engagement,” the League stated, adding that further details regarding the Player Auction process, scheduling, and operational guidelines will be announced in due course.
As the PSL enters its second decade, the reforms underline a clear message: Pakistan’s flagship T20 league is not just growing, it is redefining itself for the future.
