De Kock blazes as South Africa storm past West Indies to take series lead

Quinton de Kock produced a masterclass of power and precision to fire South Africa to a commanding 2-0 lead in the T20I series against West Indies at SuperSport Park. The veteran opener, returning to a home T20I after nearly three years, scored a blistering 115 off 49 balls, hitting ten sixes and six fours, to chase down 222 with 15 balls to spare.

De Kock’s innings was complemented perfectly by Ryan Rickelton, who struck his highest T20I score of 77* in a scintillating 162-run second-wicket stand off just 71 balls. Their partnership effectively ended the contest, leaving West Indies scrambling despite a strong start from Brandon King and Shimron Hetmyer, who combined to take the innings to 115 in the first ten overs.

West Indies’ charge faltered in the middle overs, particularly against Keshav Maharaj, whose 15th over triggered a collapse, removing Rovman Powell and Hetmyer in quick succession. Earlier, missed chances from Akeal Hosein and Jayden Seales proved costly, allowing both de Kock and Rickelton to capitalize on reprieves and dominate the chase.

The century marked de Kock’s second T20I hundred at Centurion and his first home T20I century in almost three years. He became South Africa’s leading T20 run-scorer, surpassing Faf du Plessis, and reached 12,000 runs across all T20 formats, cementing his legacy as one of the most destructive openers in the game.

South Africa’s innings never looked in jeopardy after the de Kock-Rickelton onslaught, demonstrating the Proteas’ depth and firepower under head coach Shukri Conrad. The victory not only sealed the series but also highlighted South Africa’s capacity to chase, imposing totals with composure and aggression, a warning for the West Indies ahead of the series decider.
