The Sydney Sixers extended their incredible dominance over the Melbourne Renegades, claiming a smooth six-wicket win at Marvel Stadium to make it 10 victories in a row against their rivals.
Chasing 165 on a slow surface, the Sixers were under pressure at 69 for 2 after ten overs before Babar Azam anchored the chase with a classy unbeaten 58 off 46 balls. Skipper Moises Henriques added a brisk 23, shifting momentum during the Power Surge, before Joel Davies blasted 34 not out from just 15 deliveries to ice the game with five balls remaining. Babar, now hitting form with two fifties in three matches, finished the match with a trademark lofted cover drive to the rope.
Earlier, Josh Brown exploded with 43 off 19 balls, hammering four sixes to launch the Renegades to 54 for 1 inside five overs. But the innings stalled once Sean Abbott produced a masterclass, delivering 3 for 16 from four overs to claim Player of the Match and choke the scoring. Hassan Khan added 39, but the Renegades could only post 164 for 9.
The Sixers move to 2-3 for the season, while the Renegades slip to 1-3 and continue their long drought against the men in magenta. Next up, the Renegades face the Stars in a Melbourne derby at the MCG, while the Sixers head to Coffs Harbour to meet the Brisbane Heat.
