Zak Foulkes set for ‘special’ homecoming at Hagley Oval

New Zealand allrounder Zak Foulkes is gearing up for his first home Test at Hagley Oval, a moment he describes as “really special,” with family and friends ready to cheer him on.

The 23-year-old burst onto the international scene this year, claiming 9 for 75 on Test debut in Bulawayo in August and troubling England captain Joe Root with his inswingers on ODI debut in Mount Maunganui in October. Now, Foulkes aims to replicate that success at his home ground for Canterbury.

Cricket runs in the family, his father Glen and brothers Liam and Robbie have all represented Canterbury Country. Robbie also played for New Zealand in the 2024 Under-19 World Cup, while Liam is now Cricket Ireland’s national game development manager.

Foulkes initially opened the batting for Canterbury, but swing bowling soon became his calling card. That skill has made him a key asset for New Zealand, especially as injuries to the squad have created opportunities in the pace attack.

With no Jamieson, O’Rourke, Sears, or Fisher available, Foulkes and fellow debutant Jacob Duffy are expected to shoulder the bowling responsibilities. Supported by his cricket-mad family, Foulkes is ready to shine in front of a home crowd and close out the year in style.
