Georgia Wareham delivered a stunning all-round performance as the Melbourne Renegades beat the Sydney Sixers by six wickets to stay alive in the WBBL finals race.
Chasing 131, the Renegades were in deep trouble at 49 for 4 before Wareham (49* off 29) and Courtney Webb (33* off 21) produced a game-changing 85-run partnership. Their counter-attack powered the hosts to 134 for 4 in just 16.2 overs, lifting them from sixth to fourth on the ladder—though they must still wait on other results to secure a finals berth.
Earlier, Wareham’s leg-spin (3 for 21) dismantled the Sixers’ middle order after Ellyse Perry’s magnificent 65 off 47 had kept the visitors afloat. With little support outside Ash Gardner’s 16, the Sixers crawled to 130 for 9, unable to capitalise on Perry’s lone stand.
Maitlan Brown struck twice early in the Renegades’ chase, but once Wareham and Webb settled, the momentum shifted instantly. The duo combined for 9 boundaries and two sixes, sealing a dominant victory that also ended the Sixers’ three-match winning streak.
With just three points separating second from sixth, the final WBBL weekend promises chaos. The Stars, Scorchers, Strikers, and Hurricanes all remain in the battle to shape next week’s knockout and challenger finals, with Hobart Hurricanes already secured to host the grand final.
