Pramodya Wickramasinghe appointed Chairman of Sri Lanka’s New Selection Committee

Former Sri Lanka fast bowler Pramodya Wickramasinghe has been appointed Chairman of the National Cricket Selection Committee, which will oversee selections for both the men’s and women’s senior teams. The appointment was confirmed by the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports, with the new panel also comprising Indika de Saram, Tharanga Paranavithana, Vinothan John, and Rasanjali de Alwis.

Wickramasinghe returns to the role after previously serving as chief selector from 2021 to 2023, a tenure that ended following Sri Lanka’s disappointing campaign at the 2023 ODI World Cup. He also served on a selection panel headed by Sanath Jayasuriya between 2013 and 2015, with Jayasuriya now the national head coach.

The newly formed committee replaces the Upul Tharanga-led panel, which has now completed its term. However, there is continuity, with Paranavithana and de Saram having served on the previous committee as well.

The new committee’s first major task will be the selection of Sri Lanka’s squad for the upcoming T20 World Cup, including key decisions surrounding leadership, after suggestions made under the previous panel regarding possible changes at captaincy level.
