Former England seamer James Anderson has been appointed Lancashire’s full-time captain for the upcoming County Championship season, taking on the four-day reins after serving as interim captain twice in 2025.
Anderson, 43, retired from Test cricket in July 2024 with a record 704 wickets but has committed to extending his long-standing Lancashire career, which began in 2002. Last season, he claimed 17 first-class wickets at an average of 25.94 across six appearances.
Keaton Jennings will remain as captain for the Vitality Blast, while Josh Bohannon continues as vice-captain, ensuring stability in Lancashire’s leadership structure. Anderson highlighted promotion back to Division One as the team’s top priority.
Head coach Steven Croft, who took over following a disappointing 2025 Championship campaign, praised Anderson’s leadership and influence on the squad, noting his performance, professionalism, and commitment as exemplary.
Lancashire begin their Championship season away to Northamptonshire on April 3, before hosting Derbyshire at Emirates Old Trafford the following week.
