Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) has confirmed that construction of the Jaffna International Cricket Stadium (JICS) in Mandaitivu is progressing as planned following a brief pause caused by the Ditwah Cyclone.
Work at the site was temporarily halted due to weather disruptions, which also forced the postponement of the first trial match originally scheduled for 14 January 2026.
Construction has now resumed, and the inaugural trial game will be held after the completion of the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2026, co-hosted by Sri Lanka and India.
SLC says it remains confident of completing the stadium within the planned timelines. The new stadium spans 48 acres and will feature 10 centre wickets and boundary distances of up to 80 metres.
The project forms a key part of Sri Lanka Cricket’s vision to develop a 138-acre sports city in Jaffna, strengthening cricket development in the Northern Province and supporting the SLC National Pathway Programme.
