Indonesia’s Gede Priandana etched his name into the record books on Tuesday in Bali, becoming the first player in T20 International history to take five wickets in a single over. The 28-year-old right-arm fast bowler achieved the extraordinary feat during the opening T20I against Cambodia, producing a spell never before witnessed at international level.
Defending 168, Indonesia were in control but Cambodia still harboured hopes at 106 for 5 after 15 overs. Introduced for his first over of the match, Priandana unleashed chaos. He struck with his first three deliveries to complete a hat-trick, removing Shah Abrar Hussain, Nirmaljit Singh and Chanthoeun Rathanak. After a dot ball, he dismissed Mongdara Sok and Pel Vennak off successive deliveries, conceding just one run – a wide – in the over, as Cambodia were bowled out 60 runs short of the target.
The moment sealed not only the match but a historic milestone, with Priandana becoming the first man or woman to record five wickets in an over in a T20I where fall-of-wickets data is available. While the feat had been achieved twice in domestic men’s T20 cricket, it had never occurred on the international stage until now.
Earlier in the match, Indonesia’s batting was anchored by Dharma Kesuma, who smashed an unbeaten 110 off 68 balls, striking eight fours and six sixes in a commanding display. Priandana, opening the batting alongside Kesuma, contributed a modest 6 from 11 balls before delivering his unforgettable moment with the ball.
Historically, bowlers have taken four wickets in an over on 14 occasions in T20Is, the most iconic being Lasith Malinga’s four-in-four balls against New Zealand in 2019. But Priandana’s five-wicket over now stands alone, a rare blend of precision, pressure, and perfect timing.
In a format defined by batting dominance, Gede Priandana has redefined what’s possible with the ball, delivering a spell that will be replayed, remembered, and revered in T20 cricket history.
