Devine’s all-round brilliance powers Scorchers past Renegades

Captain Sophie Devine starred with bat and ball as Perth Scorchers secured a comfortable 30-run win over Melbourne Renegades at the WACA.

Devine top-scored with a brisk 40 off 28 balls, putting the Scorchers on 184 for 5, before returning to claim 4 for 25 as the Renegades were restricted to 154 for 9. Early strikes reduced the visitors to 34 for 4, leaving the chase out of reach despite a 55-run stand between Georgia Wareham (43) and Nicole Faltum (28).

Earlier, Devine had shared a 69-run partnership with Maddy Darke (36), establishing momentum against the Renegades’ formidable bowling attack. Alana King chipped in with 2 crucial wickets and an unbeaten 22 off eight balls to push the total to a competitive level.

The victory lifts the Scorchers to third on the points table, while the Renegades slide to sixth with one match remaining. Perth now eye a finals berth against Brisbane Heat in their final game, while Melbourne must beat Sydney Sixers to keep their slim hopes alive.

Devine’s performance, 19 years into her international career, underlined her enduring dominance in the WBBL and her ability to single-handedly turn matches.
