Sydney Sixers continued their late-season WBBL surge with a 16-run win over Melbourne Stars, leveling on 11 points with their rivals while keeping pace with table-toppers Hobart Hurricanes.
Ash Gardner starred with a quickfire 50 off 31 balls, her highest WBBL score since October 2023. Opener Sophia Dunkley also contributed 41 as the Sixers posted a competitive 164 for 5 at Drummoyne Oval.
Gardner then turned her hand to the ball, taking 3 for 31 to dismantle the Stars’ chase. Early wickets, including Meg Lanning for just eight, left Melbourne reeling at 30 for 4, but Maia Bouchier fought back with a 67-run cameo alongside Kim Garth.
The Stars fell short at 148 for 8, with Gardner’s all-round brilliance ensuring Sydney maintained momentum and a crucial edge in the WBBL standings.
The Sixers now prepare to close out the regular season against Melbourne Renegades and Adelaide Strikers, while the Stars face Sydney Thunder in their next fixture.
