WPL 2026 set for weekday final, Two double-headers

The 2026 Women’s Premier League (WPL) will break tradition with a weekday final on Thursday, February 5, marking the first time in four seasons the title clash won’t fall on a weekend.

The 28-day tournament kicks off on January 9 and will feature two double-headers on Saturdays. Matches will be split across DY Patil Stadium in Navi Mumbai and Kotambi Stadium in Vadodara, with the first 11 games, including the double-headers, staged in Navi Mumbai, and the remaining 11, including the eliminator and final, in Vadodara.

The scheduling avoids clashes with major international fixtures. The men’s Under-19 World Cup concludes the day after the WPL final, and the men’s T20 World Cup begins February 7. This is also the first WPL edition to be played in January-February, instead of the usual February-March window.

Mumbai Indians enter as defending champions, having claimed two of the three previous titles. Royal Challengers Bengaluru are the only other past winners, while Delhi Capitals have been runners-up in all three seasons. Gujarat Giants and UP Warriorz are yet to make the final.

Ten days after the WPL concludes, India will embark on an all-format tour of Australia, playing three T20Is, three ODIs, and a Test from February 15 to March 9.
