Sydney Thunder finally got their WBBL campaign up and running, crushing Perth Scorchers by nine wickets at Drummoyne Oval to register their first win of the season. Chasing 151, Tahlia Wilson’s unbeaten 55 anchored the innings before Phoebe Litchfield sealed the result with a towering six to complete her 35-ball half-century.
Georgia Voll’s rapid 43 off 31 set the early tempo, giving Thunder a platform they never let slip. Despite starting the season with three straight losses, the victory lifts them back into the race ahead of their clash with Brisbane.
Earlier, Katie Mack powered Scorchers with a superb 79 after being dropped first ball, dominating through the covers and punishing anything short. But with no other batter crossing 20, Perth’s innings lost momentum after a double-strike in the 12th over stalled their progress.
Thunder’s chase, by contrast, was clinical. Wilson capitalised after an early life on five, guiding the innings with control and confidence. By the time Litchfield finished the game in emphatic fashion, Thunder looked every bit a side ready to climb the ladder.
