Shane Bond named Birmingham Phoenix Head Coach on two-year deal

Birmingham Phoenix have appointed former New Zealand fast bowler Shane Bond as their new men’s head coach, succeeding Daniel Vettori ahead of the 2026 season.

Bond, who played for Warwickshire at Edgbaston in 2002, joins on a two-year deal after a decade of IPL experience with Mumbai Indians and Rajasthan Royals, and coaching stints in the BBL and SA20.

Phoenix’s performance director James Thomas said Bond’s “elite coaching experience and tactical insight” made him the standout choice to lead the franchise under its new joint ownership between Warwickshire and Knighthead Capital.

Bond said he aims to bring an “exciting, fearless brand of cricket” to Phoenix and build a winning culture that reflects the spirit of Birmingham.

His appointment continues the team’s strong New Zealand connection, as Vettori had previously brought in stars like Trent Boult, Adam Milne, and Tim Southee.
