- Kagiso Rabada sidelined after sustaining rib injury in training
- Corbin Bosch drafted into seam attack alongside Jansen and Mulder
- No replacement called up as fitness for second Test remains uncertain
South Africa fast bowler Kagiso Rabada has been ruled out of the first Test against India at Eden Gardens after sustaining a rib injury during Tuesday’s training session. Rabada underwent scans and a fitness test on Friday morning, but discomfort during the assessment forced a late decision to leave him out of the match.
Corbin Bosch, who has featured in three Tests previously, was named in Rabada’s place, joining Marco Jansen and Wiaan Mulder in South Africa’s seam attack. The Proteas have not added any replacement players to the squad, while Rabada’s availability for the second Test in Guwahati remains unclear.
South Africa will continue their tour with another Test, three ODIs, and five T20Is over the next five weeks, with Rabada expected to be part of the white-ball squads as preparations for next year’s T20 World Cup continue.
