Pakistan hit with 20% fine for slow over-rate in Rawalpindi ODI

  • Pakistan fall four overs short of target
  • Shaheen Afridi accepts the sanction without contest

Pakistan were fined 20 per cent of their match fee after being found four overs short during Sri Lanka’s innings in the first ODI in Rawalpindi.

The ICC confirmed match referee Ali Naqvi imposed the penalty under Article 2.22, which stipulates a five per cent fine per over not bowled in the allotted time. Shaheen Afridi accepted the charge immediately, meaning no formal hearing was needed.

The over-rate breach saw Pakistan forced to bring an additional fielder inside the ring after the 46th over. Despite Pakistan looking in control, Wanindu Hasaranga’s late surge kept Sri Lanka alive until the final over of the match.
