Nottinghamshire have secured a major boost for their Championship title defence, re-signing Australia A seamer Fergus O’Neill for the first half of both the 2026 and 2027 seasons. The move follows changes to UK visa regulations, allowing O’Neill to feature from April to June—far longer than his four-week stint in 2025.
O’Neill was instrumental in Notts’ title-winning run, taking 21 wickets at 17.90 in just four matches to set up a dominant campaign. His impact stretched beyond performance, with his “MOM blazer” tradition becoming a hallmark of the team’s momentum and culture.
The 25-year-old said the decision was easy, emphasising his hunger for continued success and the connection he built at Trent Bridge. Head coach Peter Moores praised O’Neill’s skill, attitude and influence, calling him the “perfect fit” for English conditions and the dressing room.
O’Neill, who is in strong form in the Sheffield Shield with 15 wickets at 21.80, remains on the fringes of Australia’s Test pecking order but could push for Ashes contention. Nottinghamshire also confirmed the return of South Africa wicketkeeper Kyle Verreynne for the 2025 season after his title-clinching heroics.
