Bangladesh finished the opening day of the second Test against Ireland on 292 for 4, led by a masterful unbeaten 99 from Mushfiqur Rahim in his landmark 100th Test. The veteran walked in with the hosts wobbling at 3 for 95 and produced a calm, classy innings that steadied the ship.
Mominul Haque played his part with a patient 63, surviving two dropped chances before falling after tea. Litton Das offered strong support late in the day and remained three runs short of a half-century at stumps.
Ireland’s Andy McBrine was the standout bowler, claiming all four Bangladeshi wickets. His early burst removed Shadman Islam, Mahmudul Hasan Joy and captain Najmul Hossain Shanto, giving Ireland brief control before Mushfiqur and Mominul rebuilt.
Mushfiqur, honoured before the start of play for reaching 100 Tests, showed complete focus once the game began. After a watchful start, he opened up in the final session, moving confidently through the nineties as the Mirpur crowd held its breath.
Bangladesh now head into day two with momentum and with Mushfiqur just one run away from a historic century in his milestone match.
