India to host Sri Lanka for five women’s T20Is in December

  • Five-match T20I series scheduled from December 21–30 in India
  • Matches set in Visakhapatnam and Thiruvananthapuram
  • Series to serve as key preparation ahead of the 2026 Women’s T20 World Cup

India will host Sri Lanka for a five-match women’s T20I series in the latter half of December, marking a crucial build-up for both teams ahead of the 2026 ICC Women’s T20 World Cup.

The series will run from December 21 to 30, with the first two matches in Visakhapatnam before action shifts to Thiruvananthapuram for the remaining three encounters.

The timing aligns perfectly with the Women’s Premier League (WPL), which begins on January 9 in Navi Mumbai. Despite no Sri Lankan representation in any of the five WPL squads, the islanders will use this tour as a major preparation platform.

This announcement comes shortly after the India–Bangladesh white-ball series, originally slated for December, was postponed. The India–Sri Lanka clashes will now fill that slot, offering valuable game time before the global tournament.

With the T20 World Cup set to begin on June 12 in England, both teams are eager for competitive exposure. India’s last meeting with Sri Lanka came during the ODI World Cup opener on September 30, while their most recent T20I showdown was at the 2024 T20 World Cup.

After the WPL, India will next gear up for a full all-format tour of Australia in February–March, continuing a packed and high-profile calendar for women’s cricket.
