India–South Africa Guwahati Test to feature unusual tea-before-lunch schedule

According to reports, the second Test between India and South Africa in Guwahati will feature an unusual scheduling change, with players taking tea before lunch. The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) made the decision due to Guwahati’s early sunset and fast-fading evening light.

The Test, starting November 22, marks Guwahati’s debut as a Test venue. Play will begin at 9:00 AM IST, half an hour earlier than standard red-ball Tests.

As per the revised schedule, the first session will run from 9 to 11 AM, followed by a 20-minute tea break. Lunch will take place between 1:20 and 2 PM, with play extending till 4 PM and an additional 30 minutes if required.

The series opener begins this Friday at Eden Gardens, where a gold-plated coin featuring the insignia of both boards will be used for the toss.
