Historic father-son duo make International Cricket debut for Timor-Leste

Timor-Leste’s cricket journey began with a heartwarming milestone as Suhail Sattar and his teenage son Yahya Suhail became the first-ever father-son pair to feature together in an international match. The 50-year-old Sattar and 17-year-old Yahya took the field side by side in their nation’s first official game against Indonesia on November 6 in Bali.

While this marks a global first for men’s international cricket, the Switzerland women’s team previously saw a mother-daughter pair, Metty Fernandes and Naina Metty Saju, play six T20Is together in 2025.

Cricket has witnessed family duos before, such as Shivnarine and Tagenarine Chanderpaul playing together for Guyana, and Mohammad Nabi recently facing his son Hassan Eisakhil in the Shpageeza Cricket League final.

Despite the emotional moment, Timor-Leste’s cricketing start has been challenging, with the side facing ten-wicket defeats in each of their first three international outings.
