Asalanka & Asitha return home; Shanaka to lead Sri Lanka in Tri-Series

Sri Lanka have been hit with a double setback on their tour of Pakistan, with captain Charith Asalanka and fast bowler Asitha Fernando returning home due to illness.

The duo will miss the upcoming tri-series involving Sri Lanka, Pakistan, and Zimbabwe, with team management opting for a precautionary approach to ensure both players receive proper care and recovery time ahead of future assignments.

With Asalanka ruled out, Dasun Shanaka has been appointed captain for the tri-series, marking his return to leadership duties.

Meanwhile, young batting talent Pavan Rathnayake has been added to the T20I squad as a replacement, strengthening Sri Lanka’s options heading into the series.
